Rose

Rosamund Lannin has been an editor for Gapers Block’s Book Club and Slowdown sections, an online coupon writer, technical support for car dealers, and many more things involving the Internet and writing in some capacity. She goes by Rose but really likes the way her name looks written out. What is your most marked characteristic? I’m trying.

What is the quality you most like in a man? Smart, kind, smells good.

What is the quality you most like in a woman? Smart, kind, outgoing.

What do you most value in your friends? Honesty, loyalty, funny.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? Insecurity.

What is your favorite occupation? Writing stories and making necklaces. Sleeping and eating are pretty great too.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Knowing what I want to do and having time to do it. Hanging out with my boyfriend. Both in the same day is gold.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse? “Cool.”

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery? Paralyzing self-doubt.

What do you dislike most about your appearance? On bad days I look like a busty hobbit.

In which country would you like to live? Chicago.

What is your greatest regret? To varying degrees, my late teens and early 20s and all they encompassed.

What is it that you most dislike? Selfishness and complacency. Jerks and bullies.

What is your greatest extravagance? Red lipstick. Handbags.

Which talent would you most like to have? Flying a plane.

How would you like to die? Painlessly, having lived a full life.

Who are your favorite writers? Ray Bradbury, Octavia Butler, Haruki Murakami, Samantha Irby.

What is your current state of mind? Cautiously optimistic.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Eating pasta in bed while binge watching “RuPaul’s Drag Race”.

What is your greatest fear? Not letting the people that I love know that I love them.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? Distinct lack of chill.

What is the trait you most deplore in others? Absence of generosity.

What is your greatest extravagance? Food. Taxis. The Goyard tote I bought at Barneys in 2013.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Temperance.

On what occasion do you lie? When confronted with a baby who is not cute.

What do you dislike most about your appearance? Flat ass.

What is your greatest regret? Not applying to and going to graduate school.

When and where were you happiest? Oxford, July 1993; Chicago, summer 1996; Paris, December 2009/January 2010; Los Angeles, September 2010; Lisbon, Portugal, March/April 2016.

Which talent would you most like to have? I wish I could draw.

If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be? That we weren’t so self-sabotaging.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Being asked to write and perform. Being asked my advice about writing and performing.

What is your most treasured possession? Sense of humor.

Where would you like to live? Chicago in summer, New York in fall, Los Angeles in winter, London in spring.

What is your favorite occupation? Writing fan fiction.

Carly Oishi is a blogger, bowler and baby watcher. She is the co-creator and former co-producer of Solo in the 2nd City. When she’s not reading her own words out loud to unsuspecting audiences, she sings in a duo called Jon & Carly. Follow her @carlyo.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Being content with what you have.

What is your greatest fear? That when I’m much older, I’ll look back and regret not living more fully.

Which living person do you most admire? I admire all of the people who know what they want out of life and do what they can to fulfill those desires.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? I can be pretty lazy.

What is the trait you most deplore in others? Lack of self-awareness.

What is your greatest extravagance?   Food. I spend most of my money giving in to cravings.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Virginity.

On what occasion do you lie? When I haven’t had time to think of a good way to tell the truth.

What do you dislike most about your appearance? My flabby stomach.

What is your greatest regret? Not traveling more when I had the opportunity tied with not studying something more useful in college.

When and where were you happiest? I had an amazing time in Japan in 2009 when I was there for twelve days.

Which talent would you most like to have? I wish I could draw or paint.

If you could change one thing about your family, what would it be? That we all lived closer to one another.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Being asked to write and perform.

Where would you like to live? I’m not sure. Sometimes being near an ocean sounds nice, but I’d also like to live in or near an urban area.
